Randy Simmons, 51, a 27-year LAPD veteran and SWAT team member was killed February 6, 2008 when his unit was raiding a building in Winnetka and a mentally disturbed man who had already killed his father and two brothers shot and killed Simmons. He was the first officer killed in action in the 40-year history LAPD SWAT team. He is survived by his wife and two children.
